In an independent test at Calabogie Motorsports Park near Ottawa Canada on a Pro 6 track day ,Bickle Tire warmers came out on top! At 5 Celsius, with ice on the air fence,, we actually were the only warmer in the paddock to get heat to the rim! With out Cold Weather covers. It took a little longer,about an hour, but we actually succeeded where all others failed. All the big players were there as well. With our experience it has become apparent that you can't build a cheap warmer that does the right job. You can build a cheap warmer, but it will not give you consistent heat with longevity. In tests we have found that most tires will only absorb heat so fast. So in normal ambient air temperature of 20 C it takes a tire about 40 minutes to get heat to the rim. Getting heat to the rim ensures you have heat all the way through the tire evenly. So, consistent progressive even heat is what we have worked towards to fit this time frame. By adding better insulation we can ensure more of the heat you produce is going to the tire and not up into the air.
When some manufacturers endeavor to keep cutting costs, We at Bickle Racing pursue what is right for the tire and the rider. Building a good warmer costs money ,like a good engine builder. So we have chosen to strive to be the best and in turn we do cost a bit more. We use a heating wire that is designed for efficiency and longevity as opposed to less expensive wire. The wire is hand laid in a special mat and sealed in place. The mats design helps pull the heat from the wire and evenly disperse it across the tire. The front warmer is designed different to allow the front and rear warmers to rise in temperature more evenly. Most manufacturer’s use the same wire front and rear which leads to the front warmer over heating or reaching an artificial peak temperature extremely fast, well within the 40 minute time frame.
The Kevlar insulation is the most durable insulating product we can find. If the insulation doesn’'t keep the heat in consider 50% of what the warmer produces can go up in the air. So it is paramount that the heat be directed and transferred to the tire for efficiency.
The thicker heavier elastic cord ensures that the extended sides of the warmer are pulled around to the tire side wall, but not interfering with the calipers. One thing we strive to keep in mind is the race track is not a perfect world.So when haste is necessary the last thing you need is your warmers to hang up on the calipers upon removal.So we provide as much side coverage as possible but yet allow clean removal.
All the products we purchase are the best we can buy. These products are then used to hand make each and every warmer by no more then three people per set. Then the finished product is tested and fully heat cycled and tagged for the customer. All this is done, keeping in mind the privateer rider who has to remove the warmer himself. No hooks, clasps, just clean on and off with no hassles. One should also consider when purchasing warmers,"stuff happens".Should it be starting the bike in gear with the warmers on, leaving the warmers on after taking them off,,and yes driving through the pits with the warmer on. All this happens very frequently.More then most would expect. So consider, who and where you might get the warmers fixed,, or can you? How far away do you need to send them? We believe the company that sells the product should back the product and service it.A deal is only as good as the after sales service!
